The Seattle Times has fallen in love with Republican Joe Zarelli. How else to explain the flood of editorials that repeat Republican talking points and provide adoring praise for Zarelli’s every move? Before his love affair with The Times, Zarelli was best known for trying to cut pensions, undermine collective bargaining, and block LGBT equality, as well as a historical interest in cocaine.
It’s as if The Times has generously opened up a press office for Zarelli right in their own editorial room, which certainly makes coordinating bills and press releases easier. From using Republican talking points like “Democrat budget” to demanding the House negotiate with him rather than the Senate majority leader, The Times is carrying Zarelli’s water for him.
The Times’ recent editorials on the budget read better as press releases for Zarelli. Read their latest press releases for Senator Joe Zarelli below.
